February 3 was the last meet of the season for Roxbury and this boys only meet against Delbarton was also the last dual meet ever for seniors Tim Pessolano and Dave Frisch. The Roxbury boys lost to Delbarton with a score of Roxbury scoring 70 points and Delbarton scoring 70 points.
The meet started with the 200 medley, and Delbarton gained a 6 point lead from the beginning, by earning 10 points, and Roxbury earning 4 points for their second and fourth place finishes. The second place team consisted of seniors Dave Frisch and Tim Pessolano and sophomores Tyler Johnston and CJ Roland. The fourth place team consisted of junior Joe Fumosa, sophomores Eric Hill and DJ Ward, and freshman Michael Brauer.
The next event in the meet was the 200 freestyle, in which Roxbury earned a total of 7 points due to a second, fourth, and fifth place finish. The second place finisher was junior Eric Coraggio, the fourth place finisher was junior Dennis D’Abbracio, and the fifth place finisher was freshman Devon Laureys.
The third event in the meet was the 200 individual medley, in which Delbarton and Roxbury each earned 8 points apiece. In the 200 IM, Roxbury placed second, third, and fifth. Pessolano, swimming his last ever 200 IM as a high school student, finished second in the race, while Ward finished third, and Hill finished third.
The next race was the 50 freestyle, Roxbury scored 6 points while Delbarton scored 10. Fumosa finished second in the race and Brauer finished fourth. At this point in the meet Delbarton was ahead by 12 points, with a current score of 25 to 37.
The next race after the 50 freestyle was the 100 butterfly in which Roxbury placed third, fourth, and fifth which earned the Gaels 6 points. Johnston placed third, Ward placed fourth, and freshman Jonathon Scillia earned fifth place.
After the 100 butterfly was the 100 freestyle, and for the second race a row Roxbury earned 6 points while Delbarton earned 10. In the 100 freestyle race, Coraggio placed second, Frisch placed third, and sophomore Steven Haas placed sixth.
The next event in the meet was the 500 freestyle, which is the event that Roxbury scored their most points in. Roxbury earned a total of 9 points in this race, compared to Delbarton’s 7 points. In this race, Roxbury placed second, third, and fourth. D’Abbracio was the second place finisher, freshman Brandon Sicsko was the third place finisher, and Laureys was the fourth place finisher.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Roxbury earned 8 points, while Delbarton earned 6. It was the second race in a row in which Roxbury scored more points than their competitor. The Roxbury relay teams placed first, fourth, and fifth. The first place team consisted of members Frisch, Fumosa, Johnston, and Coraggio. The fourth place team consisted of Hill, D’Abbracio, Siscko, and sophomore Angelo D’Amato. The fifth place team consisted of sophomores Eric Moo, Mark Mizrahi, Miquel Ortiz, and freshman Kyle Mutz.
After the 200 freestyle relay was the 100 backstroke, in which Roxbury scored 5 points due to Pessolano’s third place finish and Brauer’s fifth place finish. At this point in the meet with only 2 events left, Delbarton was beating Roxbury with a score of 81 to 59.
The next event of the meet was the 100 breaststroke race. In this race, Roxbury earned 5 points compared to the 11 points Delbarton earned in this race. The Gaels earned their 5 points due to Roland’s second place finish. Roland’s finish was closely followed by his competitor, Kyle Kiot, who finished 5 seconds behind Roland. It was a fight to the wall, but Roland was able to succeed and beat Koit for the second place finish. Hill placed fifth in the race.
In the last race of Roxbury’s 2009 - 2010 season, they scored a total of six points compared to Delbarton’s 8 points. These final 6 points were won due to Roxbury’s relay teams placing second, third, and fifth. The second place team consisted of members Fumosa, Ward, Brauer, and D’Abbracio. The third place team consisted of members Frisch, Johnston, Coraggio, and Pessolano. The fifth place team consisted of Moo, Laureys, sophomore Brandon Morales, and freshman Juan Osario.
In the end, Roxbury was unsuccessful at winning their last meet of the season. The final score was Roxbury with 70 points and Delbarton with 100 points. Yet, with the last meet of the season, the Roxbury proved how much practice paid off through out the season and should still be proud of themselves for all the work they put forth during this season.
