Swimming: Roxbury Suffers Great Loss Against Morristown

Morristown hosted the Roxbury swim team in a match that the Colonials dominated.

Roxbury’s girls had managed to earn 49 points in the meet, with Morristown’s girls ending with a total of 120 points. Roxbury’s boys earned 34 points in the meet, and Morristown earning a massive 136 points.

The meet started off with Roxbury placing second, fourth, and sixth in the meet. They second place team consisted of freshman Ashley Singewald and Torrie Miller, and seniors Jackie Fleck and Lindsay Alexander.

The fourth place team consisted of freshman Taylor MacEwen, sophomore Alexa Migton, and seniors Sarah Cummins and Ashley Sicsko. The sixth place team was freshman Lauren Kelly and Jess Scillia, sophomore Erica Koepfler, and junior Michelle Graham.

Roxbury earned four points total in that race, yet Morristown managed to earn 10 by placing first, third, and fifth. When it was the boys turn to swim the event, they managed to place third, fourth, and sixth, earning a total of 2 points compared to the 12 points Morristown earned. The third place team consisted of senior Tim Pessolano, junior Eric Coraggio, and sophomores CJ Roland and Tyler Johnston. The fourth place team consisted of junior Joe Fumosa, sophomores Eric Hill and DJ Ward, and freshman Michael Brauer. The sixth place team consisted of sophomores Brandon Morales, Eric Moo, Mike Dickinson, and Angelo D’Amato.

In the 200 freestyle, Roxbury’s Singewald placed second, with Morristown’s Rachel Emodi placing first. The third place position belonged to Morristown’s Kim Hall. For the boys, Morristown swept the race, placing first, second, and third. Roxbury’s D’Abrracio placed fourth.

In the 200 individual medley, Roxbury’s Alexander placed second, with Morristown’s Kelly Hall placing first and Kelly McGuinnese placing third. Morristown had again swept the boys race by placing first, second, and third. Roxbury’s Pessolano placed fourth.

The next event was the 50 freestyle. Morristown had placed first in both the girls and boys raced. Miller had managed to come in second place for the girls, yet Morristown had taken the second place spot for the boys. Morristown had placed third for the girls and boys races as well.

In the 100 butterfly, Morristown had placed first and second as well for both of the races. Fleck had placed third, and Johnston placed fourth.

The next race was the 100 freestyle and Morristown had continued to keep up their first place streak. Miller and Coraggio had both placed third.

In the 500 freestyle event, Roxbury had placed first for the first time during the meet. The honor of being the first first place belonged to Singewald. Singewald had completed the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:06:00, beating second place’s Errodi by atleast 30 seconds. In the boys 500 freestyle, Morristown swept the race placing first, second, and third. D’Abbracio had placed fourth.

In the 200 freestyle relay, the girls placed third, fourth, and sixth. The third place team consisted of Miller, Fleck, Alexander, and Singewald. The members of the fourth place team were Kelsey Ryan, MacEwen, Stephanie Zapata, and Graham. The sixth place team consisted of AnnMarie Dunn, Monika Szumski, Kaitlin Dunn, and Kelly. The boys placed second, fourth, and fifth in this relay, their best relay of the meet. The second place team consisted of Fumosa, Dickinson, Johnston, and senior Dave Frisch. The fourth place team consisted of Roland, Hill, and freshman Jonathon Scillia and Brandon Sicsko. The fifth place team was sophomores Miquel Ortiz and Mark Mizrahi, and freshman Kyle Mutz and Juan Osono.

In the 100 backstroke, Morristown had returned to their constant first place position placing first in both the girls and boys 100 backstroke events. Alexander had placed second for the girls, and Pessolano placed fourth for the boys.

In the 100 breaststroke, Morristown swept the girls race, putting Roxbury’s Migton in fourth place. Roland managed to earn third place in the event. During the boys race, it had came down close for the fourth and fifth position. Roxbury’s Hill and Morristown’s Jack West had been very close during most of the race, yet in the end West finished to the wall .3 seconds before Hill.

The final event was the 400 freestyle relay. Roxbury’s girls had placed second, fifth, and sixth. The second place team consisted of Fleck, Cummins, Migton, and Alexander. The fifth place team consisted of MacEwen, Sicsko, Erin Ryan, and sophomore Sami Moore. The sixth place team consisted of Kaitlin Dunn, freshman Gianna Neutts, and sophomores Elizabeth Dunphy and Marlaina Lutz. Roxbury’s boys placed third, fifth, and sixth in this final event. The third place team Brauer, and Coraggio. The fifth place team consisted of D’Abbracio, Ward, Fumosa, and Johnston. The sixth place team consisted Morales, Mizrahi, Mutz, and Ortiz.

This was a rough meet for Roxbury, but with hard swims, good times, and incredible effort they can still consider themselves proud.
