The Roxbury verse Randolph meet was the last co-ed meet of the season for Roxbury, and though neither the Roxbury girls or Roxbury boys won their meet, they still produced good times, tried their hardest, and had fun. For Roxbury girl seniors, Jackie Fleck, Sarah Cummins, Lindsay Alexander, Ashley Sicsko, Kaitlin Dunn, Kayla Drobnis, and Stephanie Gonzales, this was their last dual meet ever as high school students.
In the 200 medley relay, Roxbury’s girls placed second, fourth, and sixth. The second place team consisted of freshman Ashley Singewald and Torie Miller, and for their last time swimming this race, seniors Jackie Fleck and Lindsay Alexander. The fourth place team consisted of two seniors, who it was their last time as well swimming this event, Ashley Sicsko and Sarah Cummins, junior Michelle Graham, and freshman Taylor MacEwen. For the boys, Roxbury placed third, fifth, and sixth. The third place team consisted of seniors Tim Pessolano, junior Eric Coraggio, and sophomores Tyler Johnston and CJ Roland.
The second race of the day was the 200 freestyle. Roxbury’s girls placed first, fifth, and sixth, while Singewald placing first. For the boys, Randolph swept the race, with Roxbury placing fourth, fifth, and sixth, with senior David Frisch placing fourth.
The third race of the meet was the 200 individual medley, and Roxbury’s Alexander placed second, with MacEwen placing third for the girls. For the boys 200 individual medley, it was a better race for Roxbury compared to the 200 freestyle. Roxbury’s boys placed third, fourth, and fifth. The third place finish went to Pessolano, the fourth place finish to sophomore David Ward, and the fifth place finish went to Roland.
The next event was the 50 freestyle, and Roxbury’s girls placed second, third, and fifth. The second place finisher was Miller and the third place finisher, and the last time competing in this race during high school, was Gonzales. For the boys heat of 50 freestyle, Randolph swept the event, leaving Roxbury to place fourth, fifth, and sixth. The fourth place finish went to Coraggio and the fifth place finish went to junior Joe Fumosa.
The 100 butterfly was the next event, and Roxbury girls placed first, fourth, and sixth. The first place finished went to Fleck with that 100 fly being her last fly race as a high school student. The fourth place finish went to senior Sarah Cummins, who also swam the 100 fly for the last time. For the boys, Roxbury placed third, fifth, and sixth, with the third place finish going to Johnston, and fifth place going to Ward.
In the 100 freestyle, Roxbury’s girls placed first, second, and sixth. The first place finish was awarded to Miller and the second place finish, in her last time swimming this event, was Gonzales. The boys placed fourth, fifth, and sixth, since Randolph managed to sweep the race, with Coraggio placing fourth and Frisch placing fifth.
The next race was the 500 freestyle, and Roxbury’s Singewald place first, with Graham placing fourth, and sophomore Marlaina Lutz placing sixth. In the boys heat of 500 freestyle, Randolph swept the race, with D’Abbracio placing fourth, freshman Devon Laurey’s placing fifth, and sophomore Steven Haas placing sixth.
The next event was the 200 freestyle. The Roxbury girls placed second, fourth, and fifth. The second place team consisted of Gonzales, Miller, sophomore Alexa Migton, and junior Erin Ryan. The fourth place team was freshman Kelsey Ryan, sophomore Erica Koepfler, senior Kaitlin Dunn, and MacEwen. The fifth place team consisted of freshman Lauren Kelly, Ann Marie Dunn, Gianna Neutts, and senior Kayla Drobnis. The Roxbury boys placed third and fifth. The third place team consisted of Fumosa, Johnston, Frisch, and Brauer. The fifth place team consisted of freshman Kyle Mutz and Juan Osorio and sophomores Brandon Morales and Mark Mizrahi.
The next race was the 100 backstroke, and Roxbury placed second, fifth, and sixth. The second place finish went to Alexander and the fifth place finish went to Sicsko, both seniors, and both their last 100 backstroke race as high school students. Roxbury’s boys third, fifth, and sixth. Pessolano placed third and Brauer placed fifth.
In the 100 breaststroke, Roxbury placed third, fifth, and sixth. Migton finished to the wall third, and MacEwen finished to the wall fifth. Randolph’s boys swept the 100 breaststroke race, therefore Roxbury placed fourth, fifth, and sixth. The fourth place was Roland, the fifth place was Hill, and the sixth place was freshman John Scillia.
The final event, and the final event ever in a dual meet for Fleck, Gonzales, Alexander, Cummins, Sicsko, and Drobnis was the 400 freestyle relay. Fleck, Alexander, Gonzales, along with Singewald, placed second. Sicsko and Cummins along with Migton and Erin Ryan placed third. Drobnis’ relay team, consisting of herself, Koepfler, and sophomores Stephanie Zapata and Elizabeth Dunphy, placed sixth. For the Roxbury boys, they placed third, fifth, and sixth. The third place team consisted of members Frisch, Fumosa, Coraggio, and Pessolano. The fifth place team was Johnston, Ward, Dickenson, and D’Abbracio.
In the end, the Randolph girls beat Roxbury girls with a score of 102 to 68, and the Randolph boys beat the Roxbury girls with a score of 135 to 35.
This meet was the last meet for Roxbury’s senior girls, and with their dedication, fast swims, and fun they had in this meet, they should be proud to call themselves Roxbury Gaels even when they’re in college.
