Roxbury suffered yet another loss on January 20th against West Morris Central. The West Morris’ boys managed to keep up the win and beat Roxbury with a score of 77 to 93. While the Roxbury girls, though they tried their hardest and swam as hard as they could, managed to lose to West Morris with West Morris’ girls ending with a massive 166 points to Roxbury’s girls ending with 64 points.
In the first event, the 200 medley relay, West Morris Central’s girls placed both first and third, while the Roxbury team of freshman Ashley Singewald and Taylor MacEwen and seniors Sarah Cummins and Lindsay Alexander placed second. West Morris Central’s first place team, Katin Papa, Emily Miles, Jenelle Zee, and Corrin Wolf were able to place first with a time seconds faster than the second place finisher. In the boys heat, Roxbury had finished second and third, while West Morris Central finished first. Roxbury’s second place team, seniors Tim Pessolano and Dave Frisch and sophomores Tyler Johnston and CJ Roland, just like the girls, gotten beat out by ten seconds by the first place finishers. Roxbury’s third place finishing team was freshman Michael Brauer, sophomores Eric Hill and David Ward, and junior Joe Fumosa.
The next event was the 200 freestyle, and in the girls heat, West Morris’ girls again placed first and third, with Roxbury placing second. Roxbury’s second place finisher was Singewald. In the boys heat, it was same as the 200 medley relay, Roxbury’s boys placed second and third, while West Morris Central placed first. The second place finisher was junior Eric Coraggio and the third place finisher was junior Dennis D’Abbracio.
Then it was the 200 medley relay, and West Morris Central’s girls placed first and second, with Roxbury’s freshman Torie Miller placing third. It was the same for the boys heat, with West Morris Central’s boys placing first and second, and Roxbury’s Pessolano placing third.
In the 50 freestyle, both the boys and girls Roxbury teams placed first for the first time in the meet. For the girls, it was Alexander, while West Morris Central’s Elyssa Camporti and Wolf placed second and third. For the boys, the first place finisher was Fumosa, with West Morris Central placing second, and Roxbury’s Brauer placing third. Both Roxbury’s boys and West Morris Central’s boys earned 8 points in that event.
The next race was 100 butterfly, and West Morris Central’s girls placed first and second, with Miller placing third. For the boys heat of the 100 butterfly, West Morris placed first and third, while Roxbury’s Johnston placed second.
In the 100 freestyle, both Roxbury’s girls and boys placed first. Roxbury girl’s first place finisher was senior Stephanie Gonzales and for the boys it was Coraggio. West Morris Central’s girls placed second and third, while West Morris’ boys placed second, and Roxbury’s Frisch placed third.
The next event was the 500 freestyle and West Morris Central’s girls finished first and third, while Roxbury’s Singewald placed second. As for the boys, West Morris placed first and second, while Roxbury’s D’Abbracio placing third.
The next race was the 200 freestyle relay. West Morris Central’s girls, just like in the first relay, placed first and third with the Roxbury team of freshman Kelsey Ryan, sophomore Alexa Migton, junior Michelle Graham, and Cummins placing second. Roxbury’s boys placed both first and third, earning them 10 points verse West Morris Central’s four. This was the event in which the Roxbury boys scored their most points in. The first place team consisted of Fumosa, Ward, Johnston, and Coraggio. The third place team consisted of Hill, Roland, D’Abbracio, and sophomore Angelo D’Amato.
In the 100 backstroke, Roxbury’s girls took first place due to Alexander, while West Morris Central placed both second, and third. For the boys heat of the 100 backstroke, West Morris finished first while, Roxbury’s Pessolano placed second and Brauer placed third.
Then it was the 100 breaststroke, it which both Roxbury and West Morris Central’s girls managed to earn eight points apiece. Alexandra Jones of West Morris Central placed first, while MacEwen placed second and Migton placed third. For the boys, West Morris Central placed second and third, with Roxbury’s Roland placing third.
The final race of the day was the 400 freestyle relay. Like each of the other girl relays, West Morris Central had again placed first and third, while Roxbury’s girls team of Singewald, Miller, Migton, and Alexander placed second. As for the boys heat of this relay, Roxbury ended the meet just like they started, by placing second and third. The second place team consisted of members Frisch, Johnston, Pessolano, and Coraggio. The third place team consisted of members Fumosa, D’Abbracio, Brauer, and freshman Brandon Sicsko.
In the end, West Morris Central proved to be a strong competitor for Roxbury, and in the end Roxbury’s good times and fast swims could not beat West Morris Central.
