Roxbury Girls Beat Madison in Close Meet

In a girls only meet verse Madison, the Roxbury girls continued on their winning streak. This meet was a close one with Roxbury’s final total at 94 points compared to Madison’s 76 points.

After the first race, the 200 Medley Relay, Roxbury was winning by placing first, third, and fifth. The first place team consisted of freshman Ashley Singewald, sophomore Alexa Migton, and seniors Jackie Fleck and Lindsay Alexander. The third place team included of seniors Ashley Sicsko and Sarah Cummins, freshman Torie Miler, and junior Erin Ryan. The fifth place team consisted of sophomores Monika Szumski and Sami Moore, freshman Jess Scillia, and senior Kayla Drobnis.

Roxbury then went to keep up their first, third, and fifth streak with Singewald placing first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:27:96. Cummins placed third and Erin Ryan placed fifth.

In the 50 freestyle, Roxbury placed first again, for the third time in a row. The first place spot belonged to Miller with a time of 30:40. Junior Michelle Graham helped secure points, leaving that race with each team earning 8 points a piece.

In the 100 butterfly, Madison’s Caroline Brennan took over the first place position, putting Roxbury’s Fleck in second and Cummins in third.

The next race, the 100 freestyle, had regained Roxbury’s first place in the race with Miller taking the number one spot yet again. Miller beat Madison’s second place Casey Reevem by eight seconds. Sicsko had placed third and sophomore Erica Koepfler placed fourth.

In the 400 freestyle, Madison’s Courtney McKinnon won out with a time of 4:55:82. Within two seconds later, Roxbury’s Singewald touched the wall, causing her to place second. Madison’s Amanda Evans gained the third place spot.

In the 200 freestyle, Roxbury placed second, fourth, and fifth. The second place team consisted of Cummins, Graham, Fleck, and freshman Kelsey Ryan. The fourth placed team was Koepfler, Moore, Scillia, and freshman Lauren Kelly.

In the 100 backstroke, Madison’s Brennan beat Roxbury’s Alexander by two seconds, putting Alexander in second. Madison’s Brenda Calderon placed third in the event.

In the 100 breaststroke, Roxbury placed 12 points, the most points the girls received during a single event. Migton placed first, freshman Taylor MacEwen placed second, and Graham placed fourth.

In the final race of the meet, the 400 freestyle relay, Roxbury managed to placed first, third, and fourth, securing their win. The first placed team was Singewald, Miller, Fleck, and Alexander. The third place team was Sicsko, MacEwen, Erin Ryan, and Migton. The fourth place team consisted of Drobnis, Szumski, sophomore Marlaina Lutz, and freshman Annie Dunn.

Both Roxbury and Madison swam all that they had at the meet. With close finishes, and coming down to the last event, it had been Roxbury who came out victorious.
