ABOUT THE AUTHOR

This past Saturday morning, the Parsippany Hills football team found out that they were not going to make it into the post season because of a tie breaker in the Power Points system. How did quarterback Greg DePugh react? Well the 6’3” senior gun slinger exploded by going 24 for 37, 288 yards and four touchdowns in the Vikings 41-13 route of the playoff bound Morristown Colonials.

This display of will power earned DePugh NJAC Sports Center’s Week 9 Player of the Week Award. We caught up with DePugh to talk about his big win, his disappointment about not getting into the post season and what was his fondest memory as a three year starter.

How did it feel to get a win against such a great team like Motown? It felt great to get a win against Motown. Whenever you can beat a school that is one of the best in Morris County it is always fun.

How bummed are you that you are not in the post season?
Obviously nobody is going to be happy if they do not make the playoffs and it is my senior year so this was my last shot, but there’s nothing I can do about it now so I try to not let it bother me too much.

Who is your role model?
My role model is my father because he has helped me and the rest of our family with anything we needed in life, he is always there for me at anytime and I hope I can be as good to my family as he is to us.
What is your fondest memory on the field?
My fondest memory I would have to say is playing with my brother against Wayne Hills in the first round of playoffs my sophomore year even though we didn’t play too good.

Out of the teams you played, which do you think is most likely to make it to the states?
I think that Sparta is going to go very far into states because they were big and had talent.

Who was the best football player you played with at Par Hills?
The best football player I played with at par hills was my brother, he worked so hard and he rarely dropped passes, but because of injuries he never really could show everyone how good he actually was.

How do you feel about playing in the new NJAC Conference vs. the old Iron Hills?
I liked playing in the new conference because we got to go up against teams we haven’t ever played before but I liked having the rivalries with the old teams more.

What sport do you like better; football, basketball or baseball?
I can’t make a decision between which sports I like best except football and baseball are ahead of basketball.

What are your college plans?
My college plans are to hopefully play a sport along with getting a college education.

Who is the funniest player on your team?
I was talking about this question with a couple players on the team and we couldn’t pick a funniest player because there were too many people that could have been it.

Who is the unsung hero of your team?
The unsung hero of the team is definitely Nick DiGiacomo. He is one of the most dominant players on the field but many people can’t see that because he is on the line and usually the line doesn’t get enough credit than they should.

Who would you go to war with?
I would go to war with John Mikorski only because he is into spear fishing and hunting and stuff so it seems like he would be a good soldier.

Okay Greg, lets see how you do with some of our pop culture questions.

Funniest thing my coach ever said. There have been so many things that all the coaches have said that have been funny but the one story I was told by our assistant coach was that before I was in high school was when they were coaching the team and they were doing really bad at practice or something one day. Everybody looked at Coach Albano to see what he was going to say and he yelled out Jiminy Crickets which everyone thought was hilarious because it was so unexpected.
