On Friday December 18, 2009 the Wallkill Valley gymnasium was full of Ranger Pride during eighth period. Spirits were up because that was the day of the 2009 Winter Pep Rally. The entire staff and student body was in attendance to wish the winter teams best of luck for their upcoming seasons.

To kick things off, the Wallkill Valley Select Choir sang the National Anthem and then the fun began. Next, the cheerleaders orchestrated a humorous “Mr. Leg” competition. This is where some of the season’s male athletes can show off their legs to see who has the best legs of Wallkill. The 2009 Mr. Leg winner was boys' basketball captain, Dan Nann.

Next, the winter track team came out and made a quick appearance then quickly dashed out to their meet that was scheduled for that afternoon.

This winter Wallkill welcomes a familiar face to fill the position of one of the school’s winter track coaches. Lauren Donohue, a graduate of Wallkill Valley Regional High School, and current physical education and health teacher will be ringing in the New Year with her first season as a coach for the winter track team. In the past, she has coached spring track at different high schools; yet, this year will be her first time coaching track at Wallkill and her first time coaching indoor track. She will be working along side well known track enthusiast, Coach Sabrina Lucas.

While in high school, Coach Donohue was on the school’s spring track team and threw shot, disc, and jav. She also switched between running the 100m and 200m. Her track career did not end there! In college, she was captain of the indoor and outdoor track teams where she was often recognized for her excellent performance. Accomplishments included making the first team for All-NJAC and several ECAC athlete of the week awards. When she eventually graduated from Rowan University she graduated as scholar-athlete for Rowan University’s 2002 graduating class. Today she still holds the school’s record for indoor shot. It is an impressive resume, and all of her experience will certainly be put to good use in the upcoming season.

She is happy to report that the team is hard at work at the moment preparing for their meets. They are working on their fitness and getting into “track-shape.” The c  ...Read More
