On October 21, 2009 the Lady Falcon Field Hockey Players were escorted out by their parents to be recognized as graduating seniors. The atmosphere was filled with varying emotions from sadness to excitement from the players as well as their parents. When each senior was asked after the game to reflect on the memories gathered over the past 4 years of playing, some responded with serious memories, while others funny. However, all 9 seniors had one commonality in their answers, the desire to win.

Nikki DiStasi, when asked what her craziest field hockey moment was, dug deep into the past to recall a freshman memory. She recalls watching the varsity’s night game where the girls won in overtime. She stated, “It was a great game.” Her most challenging moment came in her junior year when the Falcons beat Newton. Her comments regarding the game came as followed: “We all worked so hard and it definitely paid off.” DiStasi’s most memorable moment involves her senior year and making states. Nikki believes Coach Farris influenced her the most; “She showed us that we could win our games and have tons of fun doing it.” She would also like to thank her parents for supporting her in whatever she decides to do. Nikki plans on going to college for business management and hopes to study abroad along the way.

As dusk settled on the Falcon’s nest Wednesday night, the Wallkill Valley Rangers and the Jefferson Falcons prepared for a field hockey showdown under the lights. When the smoke cleared, the Rangers outshot the Falcons resulting in a 5-2 victory.

Two minutes into the game Wallkill’s #7 Adreanna Nordland opened fire on Kate Fuess.  This goal is only 1 of 4 that she would have by the end of the night. Twelve minutes later into the first half, Nordland scores again, this time the ball trickling in.

The Falcons called a tactical timeout, and immediately Jefferson’s defense mades some corrections. Great free hits from Jefferson’s backs, Emily Voorhees and Colleen Small, began to open up the game. Unfortunately, early on, the Falcon forwards could not own open spaces in the midfield.

Coach Ryan’s half time talk must have been taken to heart because the Falcons came out scoring within the first 2 minutes of the second half.

Left wing, Lauren Ferguson deflected high over Wallkill’s Emily Stukenborg’s right shoulder. Jefferson fans roared from the football stands, which were recently decorated for senior night. Enthusiasm was high for the next 10 minutes, and it seemed like the game could turn around at any moment.

Adreanna Norland secured a hat-trick during those precious moments, and the game went to 3-1 with 20 minutes left in the game. Solid midfield play from Jefferson’s Jackie Hyder created several offensive oppor  ...Read More

The Falcons had a great victory on Friday, with a score of 6-2, beating Butler. The work that they put in really showed as their offense scored six goals. Three goals were scored by Amanda McCarthy who played her very best all throughout the game. Sam Abromavage had one goal, Danielle Bartke had one goal, and Lauren Ferguson also had one goal.

Every Falcon varsity field hockey player left with a feeling of pride and confidence. Not only varsity, but also the JV girls who were happy for varsity. Brittany Miller and Danielle Bartke played up for varsity and played in that game. They did a very good job and Danielle Bartke was one of the girls who scored a goal.

Butler played their best even with these goals being made and made their own. They still scored in two goals and were good competition.

Let's hope the Falcons field hockey team beats their next opponent Tuesday!

WEDNESDAY - The Kittatinny Cougars won the duel against the Jefferson Falcons. Cougars won by a score of 2 to 1. In the beginning of the game, the wind speeds were approximately 50 miles per hour which presented both teams with disadvantages. In the end, Kittatinny was in a better position to finish.

In the first half of the game, Kittatinny had one goal attempt while Jefferson had 7 goal attempts. #9, Amanda Thompson, had a fast break early on for Kittatinny, but was halted by Jefferson’s backs. Then as Jefferson broke away, # 10, Jalianne Heater of Kittatinny stopped the Falcon in her tracks. The Falcons out shot the Cougars in the first half, but Kittatinny’s Sam Knorr scored the half’s only goal.

In the second half of the game, roles reversed and Kittatinny out shot Jefferson. Kittatinny had 10 shots on goal, while Jefferson had a meager 3. Jefferson did score a goal to tie the game. However, Kittatinny’s offense lead by Amanda Thompson and Sam Knorr came up with another goal before the game’s end. “The offense and defense were evenly matched. These teams were evenly matched, but we simply did not have enough time to come back and win the game,” commented Coach Danielle Ryan of the Falcons.

The Falcons play Butler at home on October 9th. Will they beat the clock and Bulldogs Friday? Come out to support girl’s field hockey.
