There is nothing like high school football to get our community in a good mood. And nothing gets everyone really excited more than post season awards. Since this is the inaugural season of the new Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference, we plan on doing something very special for our post season awards.

Of course we will have our All HSjox.com team. Actually, I am not certain we are going to call it that, but we will be presenting a first, second and third team all star team to honor all the efforts of the star players from the conference.

However, we also want give special recognition to the athletes that really go the extra mile. So we are going to offer individual awards, very similar to the way Division 1 College honors their athletes.

In D1 College, athletes receive the Fred Biletnikoff Award for Most Outstanding Receiver, the Butkus Award for the Most Outstanding Linebacker and the coveted Heisman Memorial Trophy for the Most Outstanding Player. We will be doi... [Read More]

Publisher’s Note: George Muha joined fellow football writers and long time Rockaway residents Rocky Walifer and Sherm Reale at the new Gencarelli’s Restaurant in the Quik Check Plaza in downtown Rockaway.  The three enjoyed delicious food and chewed the fat about the rekindled football rivalry between cross-town rivals Morris Hills and Morris Knolls  The two Rockaway teams will meet for the first time in decades Saturday, September 12, at 1:30 p.m. at Gifford Field.

George Muha: Ok boys, here’s a fastball down the middle: What was it like growing up in Rockaway?

Sherm Reale: Grim, extremely grim. We walked seven miles to school in the snowy winter.

Rocky Walifer: And backwards on even-numbered days so that we wouldn’t wear our shoes out.
